I support “You Can’t Fake Fashion” and things.

Yesterday at 11 a.m. EST, the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) in partnership with Ebay’s FashionVault moved forward with their “You Can’t Fake Fashion” campaign. The campaign is basically to make a statement and bring awareness to the fact that knockoff and counterfeit designer merchandise hurts the profitability of the fashion industry, which, from a financial perspective, is already struggling.

As part of the campaign, 75 designers/CFDA members custom designed their own, one-of-a-kind “You Can’t Fake Fashion” tote bag. They were sold at 11 a.m. EST through Ebay’s FashionVault for $200 each. I was online at the time of course, and had to watch as my top 5 favorites sold out immediately. Below are some of my favorite ones!

I wasn’t lucky enough to get a custom designed one, but I did pick up one of the generic totes, available for only $45! I can’t wait to wear it to my internship at the CFDA this summer!

I wear things.

Well, I don’t wear these yet, but I’m planning on it. Printed denim is one trend for spring that I’m beyond excited about. It’s bold and makes a statement, and the best part is that it’s colorful! Take a look at some examples of printed denim for spring:

Are you planning on trying out printed denim this spring?

I like Prabal Gurung and Jennifer Lawrence and things.

Fashion sites and news sites alike have been blowing up since yesterday with photos of Jennifer Lawrence, star of The Hunger Games movie, wearing Prabal Gurung Fall 2012 at The Hunger Games premiere in LA last night.

There were a few pieces I saw throughout New York Fashion Week this season that I immediately thought, “that dress will be walking the red carpet.” One of them was the gorgeous Oscars gown that Stacy Keibler wore from Marchesa Fall 2012. What I never expected was for Prabal’s dress to be walking, well, the black carpet. Take a look.

Who do you think was best dressed at The Hunger Games premiere last night?

I like The Hunger Games and things.

I don’t know about you, but ever since reading The Hunger Games, I haven’t been able to take my mind off it. Especially with the movie premiere of the first book coming up March 23rd, I can barely contain my excitement! There are so many things to love about this trilogy: the character development, the romance, the keep-your-heart-racing action, the drama, and just about everything else. With the movie coming up, the fashion of the characters has been more prevalent than it was when the story was confined to the pages of a book (or, you know, my Nook).

One of my simple pleasures is going to midnight premieres of movies. I love it. From Toy Story 3 to Harry Potter, nothing makes me happier than the energy of the movie theater at a midnight premiere – you have such a bond with everyone there, all awaiting the magic about to happen. That might sound a little melodramatic for some people, but oh well. It’s my thing.

One thing that makes midnight premieres special is getting to dress up as the characters in the movie for cult classics like Harry Potter. With the midnight premiere of The Hunger Games coming up, have you given any thought to your outfit yet? If you need some suggestions, check out some ideas below for three versions of the main character, Katniss, and the outrageously Capitol-fashionable Effie Trinket.

What are you looking forward to most about The Hunger Games movie? And who are you dressing up as? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

I pin things.

Most social media-savvy fashionistas would agree that one of the most important new social media sites is Pinterest. But while it’s a great tool for crafting ideas, cute desserts, and outfit inspirations, Pinterest also serves a greater purpose.

Here are some tips for how to strategically use your Pinterest profile:

  1. Your social media persona should be consistent across all your social media sites. For example, if fashion is your thing, make that clear by the content you post on Twitter, the things you blog about, and the boards you have on Pinterest.
  2. Create specific boards. If you write a cooking blog, you’re not going to get anywhere with a board labeled “Food.” Create separate, specific boards for sweet and savory, breakfast, fish, desserts, etc.
  3. Engage and interact. The way to benefit from social media in general is by interacting with people! Follow people with interesting boards that appeal to your themes, and repin and comment to engage with them.
  4. Use Pinterest to spread word about your blog. If you have a blog and you post original graphic content (even things as simple as outfits on Polyvore!), pin those images from your blog. When people share and repin, it will link people back to your blog, giving you more traffic and hopefully some new loyal followers!

And….while I was writing this blog post, I got an email that Betsey Johnson started following me on Pinterest!

Her fan page on Facebook posted a status, “Guess what!? Betsey’s on PINTEREST! Who should she follow?” and I was the 23rd of hundreds to comment. But out of the 22 people who posted before me, only 2 people put a comment with the link to their Pinterest profile! Everyone else just wrote some variation of “me!” Engaging with brands on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest is beneficial to both you and to the brand – but you have to be smart with your interactions.
